From 16 April 2026, new rules are in force that set clear requirements for managing methamphetamine contamination in rental homes.

The Residential Tenancies (Managing Methamphetamine Contamination) Regulations (Meth Regulations) introduce consistent testing standards, clear contamination thresholds, and defined processes for decontamination and tenancy management.

To support our members to comply with the new Meth Regulations, we have collaborated with the Tenancy Services Team at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and REINZ Residential Property Management Sector Group to address a number of frequently asked questions in this resource.
