A REINZ PRIVACY POLICY


The Real Estate Institute of New Zealand Inc. (or “REINZ” or “we”, “our” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy in relation to your membership of REINZ. This Privacy Policy applies to your personal information provided by you to REINZ as part of your membership of REINZ. By supplying your personal information to us, you consent to the data practices described in this Policy statement. This Policy statement also needs to be read in conjunction with our website use terms, as displayed on our website.

Collection of your Personal Information

We collect personally identifiable information, such as your e-mail address, name, home or work address or telephone number. This may be collected from information you supply to us, whether via our web site or as otherwise supplied by you, or as otherwise described in this Policy statement. We also collect anonymous demographic information, which is not unique to you, such as your post code, age, gender, preferences, interests and favourites.

There is also information about your computer hardware and software that may be automatically collected by us. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring Web site addresses. This information is used by us for the operation of our services, to maintain quality of the service, and to provide general statistics regarding use of our web site.

We are not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on web sites other than our own web site.

Use of your Personal Information

We collect and use your personal information to operate our website, to operate our wider operations, and to deliver the products and services you have requested. We also use your personally identifiable information to inform you about our products or services from time to time, and you consent to receiving such communications from us, whether electronically, via any telecommunications service, or in any other manner (although you will have the right to opt-out of receiving any such communications at any time). We may also contact you via surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services or of potential new services that may be offered by us.

We do not sell, rent or lease our member, customer or user lists to third parties. We may however, from time to time, contact you on behalf of external business partners about a particular offering that may be of interest to you. In those cases, your unique personally identifiable information (e-mail, name, address, telephone number) is not transferred to the third party. In addition, we may share data with trusted partners to help us perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information, such as race, religion, or political affiliations, without your explicit consent.

We keep track of the we sites and pages our customers visit within our own website, in order to determine what services are the most popular, but this is unlikely to contain any personal information about you. This data is used to deliver customised content and advertising to our customers, whose behaviour indicates that they are interested in a particular subject area.

We may disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on us; (b) protect and defend our rights or property; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of our personnel, customers, users, or the public.

You may request the return, deletion or amendment of your personal information held by us at any time, but subject always to any other obligations you may be committed to with us.

Publication of photographs taken at members' events

It is our regular practice to photograph people attending events and some of those photographs are published in on-line newsletters, and/or on REINZ social media sites. If you are attending such an event and you do not wish to have your photograph taken, the photographer should be told and your request will be accepted. In permitting yourself to be photographed, we understand you to be consenting to the publication of your photograph in a tasteful and appropriate manner.

Security of your Personal Information

We take all practical and reasonable steps to secure your personal information from unauthorised access, use or disclosure. However, it is not possible for any organisation (including ours) to guarantee that 100% security will be maintained at all times.

Changes to this Statement

We will occasionally update this Privacy Policy statement to reflect feedback we receive and for other reasons. We encourage you to periodically review this Policy statement to be informed of how we are holding and protecting your information, as each new subsequent Policy will apply in relation to the personal information held by us.
