A Call For Change - Better Property Management

Help us protect tenants, landlords & property managers!

New Zealand is one of the few countries in the OECD that does not regulate its property managers.

REINZ believes that regulation is necessary to protect tenants, landlords and the reputations of those property managers who are acting professionally.

REINZ is now calling on the Government to formally review the need to regulate the property management industry, including public consultation, and to announce its recommendations for reform before the 2020 election. We have the support of 40 organisations so far across New Zealand who support this.

If you have examples you would like to share of behaviours that are undermining the professionalism of the industry, please visit www.acallforchange.co.nz

Ask Advisory: Can I advertise a garage that has been converted into a bedroom, as a bedroom?

If the garage has been converted into a bedroom and a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) was issued by the council upon completion of the work, then the space may be advertised as a bedroom.

If work was not consented and the space is advertised as a bedroom then, this is likely to mislead any potential purchasers.

If there are any signs that a property has a garage conversion, check with the vendor that the work has a CCC. If the garage is not consented and the vendor does not wish to apply for certification, you will need to disclose the lack of certification to potential purchasers. You must obtain the vendor’s consent prior to disclosing this information.

New RentalSmarts Template Options

Since releasing RentalSmarts we have had great feedback and suggestions to make the tool better. One of the main ones being the ability to add your own logo easily and change the heading colour on the end report. These updates have been designed and are currently being tested for release in the next couple of weeks.

We love feedback and being able to make the tools we create work better for you! Please don’t hesitate to email statistics@reinz.co.nz with any ideas for future enhancements for any of our digital products.

This week on the blog: Why mindfulness matters at work

A key benefit for busy professionals is that it dramatically sharpens decision-making skills. For example, when you are aware of your thoughts, you are empowered to pause and choose your response, rather than just making a knee-jerk reaction.
