REINZ launches RentalSmarts
Last week, REINZ announced the launch of RentalSmarts, the new online rental appraisal tool that gives property managers the ability to quickly create a rental appraisal.
RentalSmarts is available to REINZ Property Management members on the Property Management Statistics Portal.

IRD number on Land Transfer Tax Statements
Cabinet is seeking to implement Recommendation 99 from the Final Report of the Tax Working Group. This means that from 1 January 2020, all buyers and sellers will be required to provide their IRD number when they buy and sell property.
This change aims to provide a clearer picture of property transactions for the Inland Revenue Department to enable them to check compliance with tax rules pertaining to property speculation.
The proposed change has been made through a Supplementary Order Paper in relation to the Taxation (Annual Rates for 2019–20, GST Offshore Supplier Registration, and Remedial Matters) Bill.
Farm Debt Mediation Bill
The Farm Debt Mediation Bill was introduced into Parliament on 15 May 2018 and if approved will create a mandatory mediation scheme for farmers. This scheme will require secured creditors who lend money to farmers to offer mediation to farmers before taking any enforcement action in relation to debt secured over farm property.
This bill aims to support farmers who are facing financial distress in relation to secured creditors and recognises that there are risks outside of farmers’ control, such as climate change, biosecurity threats and international market changes that can affect their ability to make payments on time.
The bill is currently in its second reading. REINZ will continue to update members as the bill progresses through Parliament.

Gisborne house prices rose $2,645 a day in May
Bindi Norwell, REINZ Chief Executive said: "Gisborne was the strongest of all the regions in May, with a 54.4% annual increase in the median house price and a 22.9% monthly increase which is the equivalent of $2,645 a day."
