Types of Membership
There are two main types of membership at REINZ, with different levels of access underneath them depending on the sector the agency works within. REINZ may choose to deny membership to any individual or company whom we deem does not meet the professional standards we set, or for any other reason deemed reasonable by the REINZ board.
Agency membership is available to any company which is either registered as a trading company with the REAA (Real Estate Agents Authority) or Property Management Agency. Agency members come in all company sizes and shapes, from sole-traders to some of New Zealand's biggest companies and brands. Our agency members work in a variety of sectors, however all conform to selling, leasing or renting property in the residential market, rural sector and farms, commercial and industrial sector or business broking.
Although rare, some individuals are accepted as members of the Institute as individual members who do not belong to an agency as outlined above. All individual membership is approved by the board.
Requirements of Membership
All REINZ members are held to a high standard of professional excellence. To become a member as either an agency or an individual, you must also be able to meet this high standard. As such, companies who have had their license cancelled or suspended by the REAA (Real Estate Agents Authority) are unlikely to be granted membership with the Institute and/or will be reviewed by the board after their suspension ends. In addition to this, all members of the Institute must:
- Follow the REINZ Code of Conduct(s), including the Code of Practice; and
- Have professional indemnity insurance
- If an agency, have a current Agency License.

NOTE: If your office is already a member of the Institute or you are a current user and would like to make a change to your profile or have recently changed offices, please ask your office administrator, manager or principal officer of your office to update this in the membership portal, or they can contact the membership team on email@example.com or 0800 473 469.
We can not process office transfer requests from an individual, authorisation is required from the agency.
